They met when they were both preparing to fight the devastating Fourmile Canyon wildfire. Shivaun was teaching a class that Emmit attended and he found himself smitten. You could say he was "hot for teacher", if you'll excuse the firefighter pun and Van Halen reference.
Apart from being a volunteer firefighter and EMT, Emmit is an incredibly talented blacksmith, entrepreneur and is the four-time world champion in Single Jack Drilling. Which is a good thing, because it would take quite a manly man to sweep Shivaun off her grounded feet. She, too, is a firefighter, nearly a bonafide doctor, and a genuine mountain girl to the bone.
Shivaun and Emmit were married at the historic Gold Hill Inn, where her family has been owners and innkeepers for generations. Inside the Inn feels like a time capsule, with the relics and history of a bygone era of miners and the mountaineers left perfectly intact.
Outside, the Inn is nestled in the Rocky Mountains where both of them spent their childhoods, not far from each other, in the wilderness they will always call home.
Behind the ceremony, you could still see the burn scars from the wildfire that narrowly spared the small town of Gold Hill. Not a lot of good came from the destructive wildfire. I'd say one of the only things is a damn good love story.
